Preparing for Session 1
Pre-Study Survey
At the first session, one of our team members will be meeting with you, the parent or guardian, to talk about unique events that your child took part in. We want to know how much children of different ages remember about different events (recent and distant events; positive and more negative events). You will be asked to nominate 4 events that follow the parameters below.
Types of Events
The events that you are nominating must be unique events that occurred within one day in your child's past. By unique, we mean, the events must have only occurred once (not repeated events, like birthdays or weekly skating lessons). We will be asking you to share at least 1 memory from each category below (for a total of at least 4 events). For each event there must be a photograph or another way to know when the event happened.
The photographs above show some examples of events that could fit the criteria, but many other events could also fit the criteria. You know your child best, and which particular events would fit the category best for your child.
Two Positive Events
Distant
Please select one event that happened 2 - 4 years ago that your child would remember being a "good" memory. In other words, an event when your child was happy, felt cheerful, excited, or glad.
Recent
Please select one event that happened within the past 2 years that your child would remember being a "good" memory. In other words, an event when your child was happy, felt cheerful, excited, or glad.
Two Negative Events
Distant
Please select one event that happened 2 - 4 years ago that your child would remember being a "not so good" or bad memory. In other words, an event when your child was unhappy, felt angry, sad, scared, disappointed, or upset.
Recent
Please select one event that happened within the past 2 years that your child would remember being a "not so good" or bad memory. In other words, an event when your child was unhappy, felt angry, sad, scared, disappointed, or upset.
The photographs above show some examples of events that could fit the criteria, but many other events could also fit the criteria. You know your child best, and which particular events would fit the category best for your child.
Sharing Memories
Once you have chosen your four events, please get ready to share them with us!
During your Pre-Study Survey ZOOM Session, our team member will ask you to share your memories about these past events and collect information that can help us interview your child in Session 2. We will also ask for photo timestamps or documentation about when the event occurred.

Photos taken from your laptop or phone, or other copies of documentation (e.g., physical copies of vaccination forms, doctor's notes, ticket stubs, etc.), should all show the date and/or the timestamps for all the events you are choosing.
Here are some examples of documentation that can be used:
-
Videos
-
Photos
-
Emails
-
Text Messages Referring to the Event
-
Calendar Bookings
-
Vaccination Cards
-
Movie Tickets
-
Plane Tickets
-
Doctors Note
-
Receipts (e.g., from Barber shop, Toy Store)
-
Theme Park Tickets (e.g., Disneyland)
-
Funeral Notices or Announcements
-
Photos of Invitation Cards or Other Event Notices

If you are using an Apple product (i.e., iPhone), please click the button
If you are using an Android product (i.e., Samsung Galaxy), please click the button.
Although you will be sharing timestamps of photographs or documentation about when the events occurred, you do not need to share anything you want to keep confidential. For example, you can cover physical documentation with post-it stickers to avoid showing us personal information during our ZOOM session (see example below). We are happy to discuss this with you.
